On April 28, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) celebrated the 10th anniversary of Can You Do Lunch? (CYDL) at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. The CYDL event is an opportunity for CANFAR to raise awareness of important issues related to AIDS and HIV while highlighting people who have made significant contributions to help reach CANFAR’s goals. This year’s event, cochaired by founder Janice O’Born and CANFAR’s national spokesperson Valerie Pringle, paid tribute to prominent women who have been at the forefront of the fight to end HIV in Canada. The event celebrated critical people from the scientific and medical communities, as well as philanthropists and community leaders and the leadership of women living with HIV. A special tribute was also given to the Honourable Hilary Weston for her long-time support of CANFAR. “This is such a pivotal time, with trial cures being developed to treat HIV. We are grateful for all the women who have gotten our community in Canada and globally to where it is today,” says CANFAR CEO Alex Filiatrault. The afternoon was a beautiful celebration of support for CANFAR and its fight to end HIV in this country.
