Summer means beach days, pool parties and vacations. It’s also the perfect time of year to refresh your skincare routine for the ultimate glow-up. Being a beauty expert means knowing the ins and outs of a perfect routine to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant. Even as a professional, I have to prevent sun damage and breakouts. A good skincare routine is crucial in all seasons. Summer, however, brings on a different set of skin challenges. Here are some of my top tips for a perfect summer glow.
SPF is your best friend.
Don’t leave the house without following this tip: It will save you so much money in the long term by preventing premature aging, dark spots and saving your skin from harmful rays that may cause skin cancer. I recommend a minimum SPF of 30 or higher. Tru-Green Organics Sheer Botanical Sunscreen is perfect for the face and body. A non-greasy, water-resistant, all-natural formula that is broad-spectrum SPF 50-plus with UVA and UVB protection and is safe for sensitive skin. It has a flawless smooth texture that offers full protection, plus there are no harmful chemicals added — instead, we use antioxidant-rich ingredients that will benefit your complexion while protecting. Throw it in your bag and go, no excuses.
Stay in the shade.
Wear a cute sunhat, sit under an umbrella and just try to avoid direct sun exposure as much as possible. This doesn’t mean you have to wear a long-sleeved shirt at the beach, of course, but be mindful of your sun time. Take breaks and know when the sun is at its midday surge.
With the added moisture and humidity in the air, your skin will retain moisture more easily. This is why I recommend a great toner that unclogs and freshens the pores after you’ve been sweating. Tru-Green Organics Active Glo Toner, with AHA & BHA salicylic acid and glycolic acid, acts as a decongestant and softens skin. The glycolic acid helps exfoliate without needing to scrub your face raw, and the salicylic acid keeps pores clear. Th is toner helps close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin. It can even protect and remove chlorine and minerals present in tap water and swimming pools. You will notice diminished pore size and a more even skin tone.
Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize.
Use a dual-purpose moisturizer that isn’t heavy, greasy or pore-clogg ing. It’s best to fi nd one that has vitamin C, too. (Vitamin C is important year-round, but even more so in the summer to prevent hyperpigmentation from sun exposure. Also, it helps with fi ne lines and helps with collagen production.) Tru- Green Organics Vitamin C+E+ALOE Daily Facial Moisturizing Lotion is a solid and proven addition to any skincare routine. You’ll notice the diff erence almost instantly with this rich formulation.

Be sure to exfoliate.
Shed the weight of dead skin cells. Open your pores and regenerate your skin to prevent sweat and oil-related acne. Tru-Green Organics Hawaiian Breeze Exfoliating Facial Cleanser (with the bonus of vitamin E, which is a natural anti-inflammatory soothes and helps calm the skin and repair damaged cells) is especially crucial after sun exposure.
Rethink your makeup.
Many types of makeup can clog your pores because of the added fi llers and synthetic ingredients. Read your labels and choose non-comedogenic makeup — look for products that don’t contain ingredients that will clog your pores. (For example, stay away from primers that contain silicone.)
Cool it in the shower.
In the summer, we tend to have more than one shower a day, whether it’s because of workouts, beach days or just excess summer sweat. Cut your time in the shower to less than 10 minutes at a time. Too much time in the shower can lead to dry skin, which in turn can lead to inflammation and summertime eczema. It’s important to moisturize after your shower. Tru-Green Organics intense daily moisturizer is a great option for daily use.
