1 DREAMLAND BY CAESERSTONE
The collaboration between Caeserstone and designer Jonathan Adler was a stunning showstopper. In today’s climate where everything has to be an Instagrammable moment, it was so clever to transform traditional Caeserstone into an interactive fantasy space that visitors were only too excited to capture on social media. Typically associated with straight lines and sharp angles, the company really stepped out of the box in showcasing the versatility of quartz with curves, odd shapes and creative lighting effects. They also payed homage to the Roman port of Caesarea with the neo-classical columns. caesarstone.ca. (Image above)
2 MONOGRAM HOME APPLIANCES
It’s quite challenging to be a standout among all the kitchen brands showing at IDS, but this one caught my eye. Cooking at home is sexy, so why not showcase luxury appliances
in glass cabinetry designed by PARTISANS? This company really lets their products speak
for themselves. They’re innovative, sleek and futuristic. monogram.ca.
3 EAST VAN LIGHT
As a designer, I am constantly in search of unique, unconventional products. This small artisan-style booth was a standout against the larger commercial brands with their new Hexagon customizable lighting collection. This one-of-a-kind pendant system is fresh and vibrant—it has a sleek design and the details of the edges and light inserts echoes the lost art of fine craftsmanship. It was impressive, especially showcased in combination with Modena Smart Home’s beautiful customizable switches. This booth really reflected the idea that you don’t have to be big to be great. eastvanlight.com.
4 PURE STAINLESS POOLS
I recently completed the interior of a Miami Beach penthouse and I’m now working on the rooftop patio and pool design. This booth attracted my attention immediately as a solution to challenging pool installations. The simple and clean design takes a cutting-edge approach to traditional pool elements. The product is different and unique from a design and manufacturing standpoint. The off-site construction with onsite assembly makes it an ideal product for a 47th-floor rooftop oasis. purestainlesspools.com.
5 SMEG’S DOLCE & GABBANA APPLIANCE SERIES
Sicilian aesthetics and state-of-the-art technology were a definite winning combination. I was recently in Sicily and this booth immediately jumped out at me with a familiarity of the traditional folk colours and patterns of the region. There was definitely a sophisticated feel too, which isn’t surprising, given how renowned Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana are in the industry. It really is time brands approached the kitchen with such flare. This fusion of style, art, fashion and design is a true reflection of modern-day mindset. I loved seeing the trending collaborations among the different genres of design. smeg.com.
