IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

Toronto-based visual artist Daniel Mazzone told us about living luxuriously and how he lives his best life.

“BEING ABLE TO COLLECT ART IS A LUXURY.”

Living Luxe: What does living luxuriously mean to you?

Daniel Mazzone: Living luxuriously for me is definitely being able to do something I love every day, which is art. But I also think many of the things we take for granted are also luxuries, like being free and the ability to find fresh food and water every day. These are simple pleasures that millions of people around the world don’t have access to. Even the ability to dream is luxurious for me.

LL: How does luxury and extravagance factor into your work?

DM: I think that being able to collect art is a luxury. I’m lucky enough to have a great group of clients who order, purchase and display my work. From doing this, they have made my artwork luxurious.

LL: What plays a role in allowing you to live your best life?

DM: Being healthy and keeping things in my life balanced are definitely huge factors that help me live my best life. It’s very easy to get caught up in so many things and really forget to live a little.

LL: What objects do you surround yourself with to inspire and support your everyday growth and why?

DM: My kindle! The words I read on it definitely help me through the day and inspire me. Knowledge doesn’t occupy space. There is always room to learn and grow from books.

LL: How important is it to you to refresh and revitalize either your work or yourself?

DM: It’s important that my work always grows. As an artist, I always want to become better and better at my craft. And it’s always nice for me to expand my mind by working on other projects.

LL: What would you tell others about living their most luxurious life and how they can strive to be their personal best?

DM: My advice would be to become the person you’re meant to be, not the person who other people think you should be. Be free!
