As Toronto re-opens its doors, the Bloor-Yorkville BIA is welcoming people back with the virtual concert series.
Throughout the summer, performers have been providing a musical backdrop for dinners and shoppers at several locations around Yorkville including Eataly, 99 Yorkville Ave, The ROM, and TNT Lounge.
Bloor-Yorkville BIA executive director Briar de Lange, says this summer has been unique for the shops and restaurants in the Yorkville area. She notes patios have been a new addition for restaurants that traditionally rely on indoor dining, making providing patrons with entertainment, was the next logical step.
“For them to move to take out and curb side has been a big deal, especially when you are not set up for that,” de Lange says, adding the summer concert series has been an opportunity to allow people to enjoy traditional summer activities while following social distancing rules. “We can do this for summer, without having a gathering of people in one spot.”
This year’s performers include a roster of local talent, which de Lange says was one of the BIA’s focuses this year. Each Thursday, a new performer takes centre stage at the chosen venue and provides a few hours of entertainment. The talent this year includes Chris Platt Trio, River North, Rob Tardik, Candace Sand, David Leask, Melissa Lauren Trio, and Angela Turone. Each performer offers their own unique sound and performance style giving passersby a unique concert experience each week.
“These are well recognized, good local talent,” she says, adding she believes it is important to have local performers to help reflect the need to support local businesses.
The locations chosen for performances were also part of a collection of regular BIA supporters.
“These are good community partners who work with us on a number of projects,” she says, adding that the entire community is excited to welcome people back as more restrictions continue to be lifted.
Summer Music In The Park runs until September 9th.
