The Height of Modernity

Contributing editor Jeanne Beker's selects her favourite forward-thinking pieces.

“What’s modern now?” That’s the burning question for those who scout for the new and the next, and for those who yearn for what’s fresh and fabulous. Peer through the lens of modernity with a striking, 24-karat gold-plated and enameled circular pendant from FreyWille. The vibrant look of enamel also carries over in Knar’s 14-karat white gold “Jazz Ring” designed by Jeff Buzbuzian.

A subtle and stunning 18-karat white-gold bangle, featuring a jaw-dropping total diamond weight of almost seven karats is the height of glamour. For added allure, try IsabelleFa’s Anker Fantasie Pavé necklace, which can also be worn as a bracelet by removing an eight-inch section.

Then there’s the subject of love — a timeless sentiment indeed embodied in an 18-karat yellow-gold Fabergé egg pendant with a delicate “I love you.” If it’s magic you’re craving, Gellner’s “Stars in Heaven” ring feels a bit mystical. Or, if it’s bold, no-nonsense modernity you’re after, the silver and 18-karat yellow-gold multi-band ring from Tirisi will definitely fit the bill. Statement earrings are also making big news, with dangling circles feeling right on trend. The 18-karat rose-gold, drop earrings, encrusted with black and brown diamonds, are the epitome of edgy, New Age elegance. And then there’s the mesmerizing charm of John Hardy’s interlinking, hammered-sterling hoops. But the piece de resistance for me, is Hardy’s dynamic sterling silver cuff from his Bamboo collection. For each bracelet sold, seven bamboo seedlings are planted in Bali — a heartwarming nod to our endangered planet and a powerful sign of these modern times.
